Cherishing a day of rest

After driving to Wyoming and back between Tuesday evening and this morning, with too-brief stops at both parents’ houses and one restless night with an aggressively affectionate cat, it was nice to take a long nap this morning, followed by a late lunch at Finn McCool’s and hours just hanging out on the couch. (Okay, so I’m working while hanging out on the couch, but thank goodness I’m not driving.)

I have a confession

This post has been backdated a day. I should have posted from my dad’s house, when I had the wireless, but I didn’t. It was just before midnight, somewhere between Salt Lake and St. George, that I realized I needed to do a blog post, and of course there’s no wireless on the highway, and NovySan’s phone had no connection. So, here’s yesterday’s post today, and today’s post to follow.

Nor snow, nor cold, nor dark of night…

…shall keep me from my appointed post. I did actually wonder whether I’d manage a post today. I should have posted from Mom’s, where I had a hard connection to the ‘net, but didn’t. About halfway to Dad’s, I started to wonder — how am I going to post? I guess I can borrow Dad’s (*shudder*) dialup. I knew I wouldn’t be able to blog from NovySan’s phone again, because he gets no connection out here. I do, but I can’t login from my phone, because of the way it handles capitalization. But Dad’s got a new satellite connection, and needed Novy to set it up for him. So here I am, on a wireless satellite connection, in an old homestead house decorated with Asian-themed murals. And it’s -1 degrees. And there’s snow outside. I’m sure Dad’s cat will want to sleep on Novy’s head.

Very, very quick

Of course I’ve managed to log on just as my mother is ready to go to bed. The dog would like to know what I’m doing. She likes when her bed is downstairs.

Arrived safely

I’m at my mother’s desk, looking at my 8th-grade picture and my friend Thessaly’s business card. There’s a pecan pie in the oven (my mother makes amazing pecan pie — I almost won’t eat anyone else’s), there’ll be brisket soon, and I’m going to go upstairs and get a bit more whiskey.
