  1. I Need Adult Supervision, Part III

    June 16, 2009 by ChiaLynn

    Memorial Day Weekend, 2005.

There was a stack of particle board leaning against the wall in the office, and I needed to get to the outlet behind it. “I’ll just ease it out away from the wall,” I said to myself.

Have you ever tried doing that with a stack of wood? It gets heavier the farther it gets from vertical. I think the pull of gravity must be stronger, closer to the ground. (Yes, you guessed it. I never took physics.) Anyway, everything was fine until the boards reached about a 45-degree angle. Suddenly, I couldn’t hold them up any longer, and I couldn’t push them back toward the wall, either. So I dropped them on my leg.

    Yeah, that kinda hurt

NovySan was outside. “What did you do?” he asked.

“Dropped a stack of particle board on my leg. But I’m okay! Really!”

“Go get an icepack,” he said.

    “No, no. I’m fine.”

“You have a show tomorrow,” he said. And I did. So I got an icepack. NovySan is very wise. And the bruise really wasn’t so bad – it didn’t affect the muscle at all.

I can’t say that for the one I picked up a few days later, when I sat on the corner of a metal filing cabinet at work.

But not as much as this one did

    Yeah. That shit hurt.

  2. Happy Easter, Everyone!

    April 12, 2009 by ChiaLynn

I’m off to breakfast with the choir (just because I’m still too hoarse to sing doesn’t mean I’m passing on Panera!), Easter Sunday service at St. A’s, a brief stint in the church bookstore, then home and work and maybe something tasty for brunch, before NovySan and I head off to a friend’s Masquerade party tonight.

You might notice I’ve made some changes to the blog – I’m still moving tags and categories around, but I’m kinda likin’ the new theme.

  3. More fun with Classic Cocktails

    Pegu Club Cocktail

    And my cameraphone…

This afternoon, struggling with a report I’ve been arguing with for two days (and finished about an hour ago), I was eying the drinks cart and wondering what else I could do with Patron Citronge. A quick dip in the Google pool led me to the Pegu Club Cocktail. There are several different recipes (this forum’s got a bunch of them); NovySan (having finished mixing a modified Long Island Iced Tea for himself) winged it once I gave him the basic proportions.

I hope he remembers the recipe, because it’s one of the best things I’ve ever had. Less sweet than a margarita, with a ginny bite like a martini (that’s a lime wedge, not an olive, just so ya’ know)… Yep. This is a good one.
